Floyd picks up another major award

It’s no secret that Ebonie Floyd is one of the top collegiate sprinters in the region. Now, she has the hardware to match the label.

Floyd was named the South Central Region Female Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday. The senior received the award for her record-setting 22.32 seconds win in the 200 meters at the NCAA Midwest Regional.

The USTFCCCA accolade is another in a long list of honors for Floyd, who claimed victory in the 200 meters, 400 meters, 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays at the 2007 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. For that performance, she was named Female Performer of the Meet and Female High Point Scorer of the Meet.

Floyd will compete at the NCAA Championships this week in Sacramento, Calif. She is set to run in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100 relay events. Interestingly, she enters the meet leading the nation in both the 100 and 200-meter events.
