Letter to the editor: We need to help those who suffer by being involved

The issue of extreme poverty has never been so prominent. There has been no better time to rid the world of such devastating poverty. We are the future leaders of this world; we have the power to help, not in the future but right now. Why should we help?

We have no worries about sanitation and access to clean water, we have food aplenty and more importantly we have opportunity. We have the opportunity to get an education and make our world a better place. The One Campaign is a call to help the poorest countries of the world gain opportunity for their people. We can give these people a fighting chance. We cannot get them out of poverty but we can provide them a helping hand. By giving basic necessities of life, like clean water and food these people can start the long process to raising their standard of living.

You can help. You can go to one.org to learn more. One@UH is a student group that addresses such issues. We are trying to help people in extreme need to have a chance to live a better life, without suffering, without pain and with their basic human rights.
