Five Minutes of Fame: Senior plans to ‘Barack’ the vote

Mike Damante: What do you do in literary studies?

Christian Jackson: We read a lot of books and try to understand what the author was thinking when they wrote it.

Damante: Is there such a thing as "illiterary" studies?

Jackson: Um, no. Funny question though.

Damante: You are from Seattle; does it rain a lot there?

Jackson: Every day. It is cold there right now. Just got off the phone with my friend, and she is shopping for knitted sweaters.

Damante: Is it depressing that it rains every day?

Jackson: You know, yes. You become a depressed person (full of angst). You don’t see the sun and hang out inside a lot since there isn’t a lot to do. It is not a good place to grow up as a teenager.

Damante: What about the Super Sonics moving? Are you disappointed about that?

Jackson: I was sad, but when I went back to visit I watched the (WNBA) Storm play and they have a huge following. Wait, did the Sonics really move? I thought that was just a rumor.

Damante: No, the team moved to Oklahoma City.

Jackson: Oklahoma? Oklahhoma? How dare Oklahoma take the Sonics!

Damante: Do you know whom you are voting for?

Jackson: Yes, Obama.

Damante: Which slogan do you like better – " Barack the Vote" or "Do you smell what Barack is cookin?"

Jackson: "Barack the Vote." I’m very moved by the songs being made for him, Will.i.am’s song. I can’t even lie. By the end of the song I was singing, "I believe."

Damante: Would you ever consider running for president one day?

Jackson: I would but Myspace never truly erases pictures.

Damante: Tell me about these pictures.

Jackson: Pictures of when I was in middle school being crazy. I got off Myspace a while ago because it is so diluted.

Damante: Did you graduate to Facebook?

Jackson: When I got to UH, I got on Facebook. I’m off that too now. I used to make my profile pictures different thing. Like, last time it was a picture of a starving child. I think it is important to inform people of things, I’d rather showcase that than a picture of me in the club with a drink in my hand.

Damante: Without Myspace or Facebook, how do you communicate?

Jackson: Cell phone. I have sprint. I text a lot. Oh my gosh. What kind of camera is that?

Mauricio Lazo: Canon.

Jackson: I’ve been saying I want a camera. My birthday is August 12, lets band together and get Christian a new hobby.
