Cougars receive honors in postseason

The Houston volleyball team has earned four postseason awards before playing a match at the Conference USA Championships.

Senior outside hitter Justine Farmer and sophomore middle blocker Lucy Charuk were named to the C-USA First Team on Wednesday. Farmer leads C-USA with 4.29 kills per set and Charuk ranks first in the league with 1.48 blocks per set.

Freshman outside hitter Ingrida Zauere ranks second among C-USA freshmen with 2.69 kills per set and earned a spot on the All-Freshman team. Senior setter Kelsey King was honored with an All-Academic team selection for the second consecutive season and leads the Cougars with 1,174 assists.

Houston will face Tulsa on Friday at 2 p.m. after receiving a first-round bye. The Cougars are 2-0 against the Golden Hurricane this season.

Stephanie Aldea capped off her freshman season by becoming just the fourth woman in UH history to qualify for the NCAA National Championships on Nov. 24 with a 19th-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 15.

She finished ninth at the C-USA Championships, earning C-USA Freshman of the Year honors – the first in UH program history – and was named to the All Conference First Team.

The women’s race begins at 11 p.m. with the men’s race following at 11:48 p.m., and both will be broadcast on CBS College Sports.
