Avery returns to hockey

Sean Avery’s road back to the National Hockey league began Tuesday as he was assigned to the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolfpack.

The Wolfpack are the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, but Avery is still property of the Dallas Stars. Avery could return to the NHL via the Rangers (the team he previously played for before Dallas), through either a trade or being claimed on re-entry waivers.

Avery was a huge hit on Broadway on and off the ice. Along with being a fan favorite at Madison Square Garden, Avery also interned at Vogue.

The troubled winger was recently banished for his ‘sloppy seconds’ comment directed at his famous ex-girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert, who is dating Calgary Flames’ defenseman Dion Phaneuf.

The Rangers and the league need Avery to succeed. Character and controversy can be a good thing.

No crystal ball here

Olympic swimming gold medalist king Michael Phelps is mulling over a decision to compete in the 2012 Summer Games in London. I’m not sure if the answer was at the bottom of that bong though.

Ready for takeoff

The Houston Rockets are 10 games over .500 and sitting in a playoff spot. The Rockets need to improve on an abysmal 13-15 record on the road before the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns play catch up.’

April will be a pivotal month for the Rockets as they will face the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix and the Portland Trailblazers all in the first week. Two (Los Angeles, Phoenix) out of those three games are on the road.

A-Roid

Leave A-Rod alone! Life is tough for Alex Rodriguez already. He doesn’t need the press prying into his personal life, or Major League Baseball and the government breathing down his neck either.

The man doesn’t need this whole steroid controversy right now. He needs to concentrate on how he is going to spend the $32 million he will be making this year.

By the way, that was sarcasm.
