Board of Regents approve contract extensions for Khator, Sumlin

The UH System Board of Regents unanimously voted to extend the contracts of Chancellor and UH President Renu Khator and head football coach Kevin Sumlin at a special meeting Friday.

Sumlin, whose new six-year contract was announced Monday, is signed through 2015. The deal includes $6.8 in guaranteed salary, a raise from the $700,000 Sumlin made in 2009.

Khator received a two-year extension that will keep her at UH through 2013, but her base salary of $425,000 will remain the same.

“The board could not be more pleased with Chancellor Khator’s performance during the past two years,” Board of Regents Chairman Welcome W. Wilson Sr. said in a release. “The only reason she was not given a raise a year ago was because of the economic situation. I personally feel that a significant salary increase is overdue, but — at her request — we are not considering a raise at this time.”
