Sorority donates $25,000 to library

The ladies of the Chi Omega sorority, their alumni and UH faculty attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the M.D. Anderson Memorial Library Saturday. The sorority donated $25,000 to the library to establish the Chi Omega Cougar Corner, which is located in the Learning Commons. The corner includes two high-powered computers for student use. This is the first donation a Greek organization has made to the University. | Jack Wehman/The Daily Cougar

  • It is a very nice gesture, however it is not the first donation to the University by a greek organization. When I was an undergrad, I was an officer in Sigma Nu and our philanthropy for a couple years was the UH Athletic program. I'm sure what he meant to say, is "this is the first donation a Greek organization has made to the University in 6 years."

  • The funds raised for the donation do not connect to Chi Omega's philanthropic endeavors. Philanthropy contributions differ from a donation made to the university. If that were the case, several organizations would have made "donations to the university." The information of being the first Greek Organization to donate and contribute in a non-philanthropic endeavor was provided by the University and is fact.

    • DCR, you are very mistaken about philanthropy vs donation. Read the definition and prove you are an educated Cougar please. Regardless, the Chi Omega Fraternity is proud to support it's chapter university as well as it's local charitable designees. They also promote higher education in many different ways. Thank you Chi Omega Fraternity of the University of Houston.

  • @Brian- UH Athletics is not a philanthropy…..oh boy 🙂 Great show of U of H support Chi Omega, and as always good job to the former Sigma Nu's for supporting U of H Athletics. Congrats on the new colony of Sigma Nu's!
