Rhoades comments on Big East report

According to a report by the Boston Globe, the Big East has extended an offer to UH to become a full member.

“We are aware of the growing speculation regarding conference realignment and do not feel it would be appropriate to comment on the possible intentions of another league,” Athletics Director Mack Rhoades said. “We are flattered to be mentioned as an athletics program of national importance and we are grateful for our strong traditions and the dedication of our fans, alumni, staff and student-athletes.”

According to the Globe, UH, SMU and UCF have been offered invites as full members, while Air Force, Boise State and Navy have been offered invitations to compete as football members only.

Air Force and Boise could begin playing as Big East members as soon as next season, while Conference USA schools UH, SMU and UCF wouldn’t be expected to join until the start of the 2013 season.
