Hotel and Restaurant Management hosts green carnival

The Conrad Hilton’s College of Hotel and Restaurant Management ended the month of the RecycleMania contest with a green carnival on Wednesday in the Hilton’s student lobby.
The HRMA Green Team, a student organization created by the college, hosted a carnival to celebrate the finale of the month-long recycle-mania event. This was the first carnival that the students have hosted, and Katie Gorski, president of the Green Team, said it isn’t going to be the last.
The college had seven booths set up for games and prizes, and free cotton candy and popcorn was available.
The carnival served as a thank you to the students for supporting throughout the semester, but it also focused on getting students excited about recycling. This fit with the focus of this year’s RecycleMania: awareness and change as opposed to poundage, like in previous years, Gorski said.
HRMA Green Team has played a large role in getting students involved. They focused on getting students to change behaviors and pledge to recycle more. Students pledged, took pictures and posted them to the organization’s Facebook page to show their dedication.
“Recycling has become a new trend, and it’s not going away”, Gorski said.
