Antel steps down as provost, returns to faculty

UH President Renu Khator announced via email today that John Antel, senior vice chancellor of the UH-System and Senior Vice President and Provost of UH, is returning to the faculty after years in his administration position.

In January, Khator will assign an interim leader to take Antel’s position.

“The chief academic officer plays an important role in any university’s growth and transformation. John has been a critical part of our team during an exceptional time of national and local recognition for the University of Houston System and for the University of Houston,” Khator said.

“I am grateful to have had him as a team member, as my provost and as a thought leader on higher education economics.”

A search committee is being formed by Khator to find the next senior vice chancellor, Khator said.

Elaine Charlson, UH-System’s executive associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and UH executive associate vice president for Academic and Faculty Affairs, will be handling supervision until the position is formally filled.
