Student Government

Hear ye, hear ye

Application filing time has been extended for students who are interested in claiming a spot in the Student Government Association as a senator, vice president or president.

Students interested in running for a position have until Monday to submit their nomination form.

“I’m hoping to see students who have a genuine desire to make this campus an even better place for office and students who have a passion for advocacy,” said Cedric Bandoh, supply chain management junior and SGA president.

The nomination form can be found on the SGA website by first clicking “Get involved!” then clicking  “Elections” on the drop down menu. They must be submitted by email to [email protected].

To run, you must be a student in good standing and attend a candidate seminar.

“At the seminars we are going over the election code to ensure all are aware of the rules and regulations they will be upheld to,” said Said Jalajal, the chief election commissioner and computer information systems sophomore.

The seminar for those running for senator will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Reading Room at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. For vice president and president candidates, the seminar will be at 5 p.m. on February 15 in the University Center Spindletop Room.

Bandoh has not decided whether he will be seeking re-election. However, Turner Harris, a supply chain and logistics senior and SGA vice president, has confirmed that he will not be seeking re-election because of graduation, but will work with SGA on projects.

Any questions regarding the nomination form should be sent to [email protected].
