Classes canceled because of icy weather

Friday classes were canceled after the city was warned of icy roads.

The University announced on its website that, “As a result of inclement weather and icy roads, the University of Houston (main campus) has canceled classes for (Friday). University buildings remain open, but only essential personnel should report for work. Please check in with your supervisors. University personnel are adding sand and salt to the roads and pathways to the University to create a safe environment for those in the campus area. However, employees driving to campus should exercise extreme caution.”

In a press release, some key areas on campus were described as being particularly dangerous.

“(Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) and Calhoun (Road) between Wheeler Street and Old Spanish Trail are considered icy and are hazardous,” the press release said. “Use caution and good judgment.”
