Speaker series welcomes second guest speaker

The second installment of the UH Hobby Center for Public Policy’s BB&T Speaker series is scheduled for  4 p.m. Oct. 6 and will be hosted by Sister Helen Prejean, a nun who is against the death penalty. The lecture will take place on the second floor of M.D. Anderson Memorial Library in the Honors College Commons.

When Prejean lived in New Orleans, she began corresponding with death row inmate Patrick Sonnier and wrote the book “Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States,” in response to witnessing his death. She will discuss the book as part of the lecture series. Her book has been adapted into an opera, play and a movie, “Dead Man Walking” starring Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon.
