Solid times inhibit promising performances for Cougars at Pre-Nationals

The Houston Cougars Cross country team took part in the Pre-Nationals meet this past weekend hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind.

The race consisted of eight schools in the national Top-25 and over 1,500 student-athletes from over 100 universities around the country. The Cougars performed well as the men’s team finished in 42nd place while the women placed 27th.

In the men’s race, sophomore Brian Barraza was the top finisher in the men’s division for Houston with his 47th place finish and a time of 25:02.0. This was Barraza’s fastest finish in the 8k this season; with national’s right around the corner, he seems to be peaking at the right time.

For the women’s team, freshman Ebony White continued her successful running in her first collegiate season with her 50th place in the 6k and a time of 22:51.3. This season, White has finished among the leaders in each race for Houston, including a win in the Cougars’ last race at the Islander Splash on Sept. 26.

Next for the Cougars is a trip to the American Athletic Conference Championships in Tulsa, Okla., starting on Oct. 31.
