The Cougars showed off some new talent and introduced Houston students to head coach Kelvin Sampson at their preseason pep rally last Wednesday, setting the stage for next Saturday’s exhibition opener.  |  Justin Tijerina/The Cougar

Administrators announced Tuesday afternoon that the Cougars’ exhibition season opener against the North Alabama Lions will take place at noon on Nov. 8 at the Hofheinz Pavilion, just before the football team takes on Tulane for the 2014 Homecoming game.

With new faces and a new coach in Kelvin Sampson, the Cougars are looking forward to showcasing what fans can expect in the Sampson era here at UH.

The meeting with UNA will serve as Houston’s only exhibition game of the season before taking on Murray State (23) on Nov. 14.

This game will be a big test for the Cougars as eight of the teams on the Houston schedule this year won at least 20 games last season, five of which competed in the NCAA Tournament (UConn, Harvard, Memphis, Cincinnati and Tulsa).
