College of Education Dean named among most influential

The dean of the UH College of Education was ranked as one of the 30 “Most Influential Deans of Education in the United States,” according to Mometrix Test Preparation.

The global test preparation company, based in Texas, recognized Robert McPherson’s impact and effort at UH, taking honors, rankings and pay received into consideration.

“We are a College of Education aspiring to lead the nation in research, teaching and service by eliminating health and educational disparities and empowering human potential,” McPherson said in a news release. “Houston deserves nothing less.”

Since 2012, McPherson has led the college to success in online graduate programs, which is among the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Three programs in the college are in the top 25 for best teacher preparation programs by the National Council for Teacher Quality.

“Dr. McPherson has found a way to blend his background in psychology with an ever-growing education program at the University of Houston,” the Mometrix rankings said. “Since his installment as dean, the College of Education has risen in national prominence.”

McPherson serves as a chair of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs, is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and American Educational Research Association, a member of the National Academics of Practice and the recipient of the American Psychological Association’s Karl Heiser Award.
