After a crazy week which saw seven teams in the top 25 lose, there was quite a bit of movement in this week’s iteration of the AP Poll.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes remain atop the polls, but lost seven votes in the process, as their lead  over second place now sits at just 73 points.

Texas Christian University moved up two slots into second place, followed by Baylor University who also made a two spot jump into third.

The Michigan State University Spartans slid two spots after their close win over the 1-4 Purdue University Boilermakers, and the University of Utah rounds-out the top five after jumping five spots from last week’s 10 spot.

The University of Wisconsin, Mississippi State University and West Virginia University all dropped from the rankings following losses.

The University of Florida Gators made the biggest jump in the poll, moving up 14 spots into the 11 spot after a win over the formerly-third ranked University of Mississippi.

The biggest drop in the rankings belongs to the University of California-Los Angeles, who dropped 13 positions after a 38-23 loss to unranked Arizona State University at home.

Houston is the highest ranked team from the American Athletic Conference, but still sits outside the top 25, as they are currently tied for 27 with Duke University.

Temple University, University of Memphis and United States Naval Academy all directly follow UH in the rankings.

While unranked in the AP, Memphis picked up enough votes to register at 25 in the Coaches Poll.

  • Just a tip. I know y’all are trying to write professionally, but for sports related articles use the most commonly recognized identification for each school. For example no one calls TCU by their full name in any sports context. Michigan Unjversity can just be called Michigan. UCLA is far more recognizable then University of Calafornia-Las Angeles. Just a tip from a guy that reads a lot of sports articles.

    • Most of the reporters writing for the Cougar are just now learning how to be reporters…. The Cougar is run by journalism STUDENTS… with a Journalism professor as a sponsor. Give them time, don’t just assume they are seasoned, professional reporters. And, as for your corrections, might I say, I see more errors in your post than those you pointed out by the Cougar staff. Such as: Michigan Unjversity? Should be University, and here is your spelling of University of Calafornia-Las Angeles….. SHOULD BE – University of CALIFORNIA LOS Angeles. Just a tip from a former Cougar reporter.
