Campus Crime Report

The following is a partial report of campus crime from June 19 through June 23. All information is selected from the files of the UH Police Department. The information in italics indicates when the event was reported to UHPD and the event’s location. Information or questions regarding the cases below should be directed to UHPD at (713) 743-0600.

Theft: 5:54 p.m., June 19, Science and Research 2 – A visitor was seen leaving the Science and Research 2 building with a large duffel bag. The visitor was stopped, questioned, charged with criminal trespass and arrested. After inventory of his property, he was found in possession of stolen property from UH Custodial Services. The visitor was arrested for Class B Theft charges and booked into Harris County Jail. Occurred 6/19/07 5:47 p.m.

Theft: 7:47 p.m., June 19, Fleming Building – Two juvenile visitors were witnessed trying to steal a bicycle from a UH bike rack. The juveniles were found and released to the custody of their parents. Charges are pending identification of the owner of the bicycle. Occurred June 19 between 7:30 and 7:47 p.m.

Assault: 8:58 p.m., June 19, Cullen Oaks Apartments – A UH student reported that her boyfriend assaulted her in her apartment at Cullen Oaks Apartments. There are no witnesses and a suspect has been identified. Occurred June 19 at 8:58 p.m.

Terroristic threat: 11:16 a.m., June 20. Cullen Oaks Apartments – Cullen Oaks Apartment’s manager reported she received a threatening letter from a former resident. The sender of the letter was identified. This is an on going investigation with one suspect at this time. Occurred between 9:45 a.m. June 19 and 11:16 a.m. June 20.

Theft: 9:17 p.m., June 20, Moody Towers – A UH visitor reported the theft of an unsecured, unattended iPod and cash from a room in Moody Towers North. There are no suspects or witnesses. Occurred between 5 p.m. June 18 and 9 p.m. June 19.

Criminal trespass: 1:12 a.m., June 21, Moody Towers – A UH security officer observed a suspicious person inside the Moody Towers commons. UHPD had previously issued the visitor a criminal trespass warning. The visitor was arrested for criminal trespass and released to Harris County Jail. Occurred between 1:10 and 1:12 a.m. June 21.

Traffic offense: 8:39 a.m., June 21, Parking Garage – A UH student reported that someone struck and damaged her unattended and secured vehicle while it was parked inside the Parking Garage. The operator of the striking vehicle did not leave the required information. There are no witnesses or suspects at this time. Occurred between 12:30 and 2 p.m. June 20.

Harassment: 9:25 a.m., June 21 University Center – A visitor reported her ex-boyfriend was harassing her via telephone. The visitor further said her ex-boyfriend is also wanted for questioning by Houston Police Department in two other related cases. A warrant will be issued for his arrest. Occurred 9:25 a.m. June 21.

Theft: 10:22 a.m. June 21, Melcher Hall – A staff member reported that an ex-employee has a UH laptop computer that the ex-employee removed without authorization. An investigation is under way. Occurred sometime around May 8.

Breach of computer security: 12:21 p.m., June 21, Melcher Hall – A former UH employee was discovered accessing the email of an associate dean without the dean’s effective consent. Occurred between 8 a.m. June 6 and 8:49 a.m. June 15.

Theft of service: 7:16 p.m., June 21 – Lot 1B – A UH staff member reported that a motorist drove their vehicle away while it was in the process of being towed for excessive parking citations. An investigation is under way. Occurred at 7:15 p.m. June 21.

Driving while license invalid/warrant: 8:13 p.m., June 21, 3800 Wheeler St. – An individual was stopped for a traffic violation and was found to have a suspended driver’s license and multiple outstanding warrants. The individual was arrested and transported and released to the Harris County Jail. Occurred at 8:13 p.m. June 21.

Assault/minor in possession of alcohol: 1:51 a.m., June 22, Bayou Oaks Apartments – A UH security officer reported that a fight occurred inside the Sigma Pi fraternity between an unknown fraternity member and a visitor. Both individuals involved were believed to be minors in possession of alcohol. No criminal charges were filed. Occurred between 1:51 and 1:53 a.m. June 22.
