The following is a partial report of campus crime between July 25 and July 31. All information is selected from the files of the UH Police Department. The information in italics indicates when the event was reported to UHPD and the event’s location. Information or questions regarding the cases below should be directed to UHPD at (713) 743-0600.
Theft: 1:21 p.m., July 24, Bayou Oaks Apartments – A resident of Bayou Oaks Apartments Townhouse #13 and a Sigma Chi fraternity member, reported the theft of electronic equipment from the fraternity house. There are no witnesses or suspects. An investigation is under way. Occurred between 1 a.m. July 17 and 1:21 p.m. July 24.
Theft: 12:03 p.m., July 25, Robertson Stadium ÀÜ A visitor reported that someone stole a Slush Puppy Machine and a food warmer from the concession stand at Robertson Stadium. There are no suspects or witnesses. An investigation is under way Occurred between 3 p.m. July 10 and 11:55 a.m. July 25.
Graffiti: 7:22 a.m., July 27, Philip G. Hoffman Hall – A staff member reported disturbing writing on a desk in a classroom in the PGH building. There are no suspects or witnesses. Occurred between 2:20 p.m. July 20.
Possession of marijuana: 12:46 a.m., July 28, Bayou Oaks Apartments – A UH police officer observed a suspicious vehicle in a Bayou Oaks residential parking area. While the officer was making contact with the driver of the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. No criminal charges were filed. The student was issued Student Life and Residential Life referrals. Occurred between 12:40 a.m. and 1:31 a.m. July 28.
Possession of a controlled substance: 3:31 a.m., July 28, Science and Research 1 – A visitor was found to be a danger to himself and others and was placed under arrest for public intoxication. The visitor was later found to be in possession of a controlled substance and transported to Harris County Jail and issued a Criminal Trespass warning for the UH campus. Occurred 4:03 a.m. July 28.
False report to police officer: 7:08 a.m., July 28, Engineering Complex – A UH staff member filed a false report with UH DPS concerning his abduction. The employee was subsequently terminated by his department. Occurred between 4 a.m. and 7:08 a.m. July 28.
Warrant -1:18 a.m., July 29, Lot 9C – A visitor was arrested for outstanding warrants issued by Harris County Precinct 5, when his vehicle was stopped concerning suspicious activity. The visitor was released to the custody of Harris County Precinct 5. Occurred between 1:28 a.m. and 1:58 a.m. July 29.
Theft: 2:10 p.m., July 12, Bayou Oaks Apartments – A student reported that someone removed her camera from her vehicle without her permission. There are no suspects or witnesses. Occurred between 6 p.m. July 10 and 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Evading arrest: 12:35 a.m., Cambridge Oaks Apartments – A UH student ran on foot after a police officer attempted to detain him for a traffic violation. The student was captured and arrested for evasion. The student was transported and released to Harris County Jail. Additionally, the student was issued Student Life and Residential Life Referrals in reference to this incident. Occurred between 12:35 a.m. and 12:49 a.m. July 30.
Driving while license invalid: 5:08 p.m., July 30, 3600 Cullen – A visitor was stopped for a traffic violation and it was determined the visitor was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. While on the scene, the visitor complained of chest pains. Houston Fire Department was notified and the visitor was transported to a local hospital. Charges will be filed at a later date. Occurred between 5:49 p.m. and 6 p.m. July 30.
Forgery: 7:08 p.m., July 30, 4000 Cullen – A student was stopped for displaying a fictitious inspection sticker on his vehicle. The student was arrested and transported to Harris County Jail. Occurred between 6:20 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. July 30.
