Letter to the editor: UH needs to address low-income students

The University mission statement is just propaganda to make the administrators feel good ("Cash-strapped lost in higher ed system," Opinion, Tuesday).

One professor I had told the class that the University treated students like an ATM machine.

Welcome to the world of big business disguised as a university.

The administrators, such as Interim President John Rudley, are here to make sure their buddies get contracts, not to help you get an education. Whether it’s Aramark getting a multimillion dollar contract to serve us overpriced food, or Coca Cola getting millions to sell us overpriced bottles of water – it’s not about helping low income students like myself better their chances at getting a good job.

Institutions such as Harvard University offer families that make less than $60,000 free tuition while UH throws people out if they can’t pay the rapidly rising tuition rates. Next time you get a bill ask an administrator why UH puts profits before people. You may not like what you hear. Thanks for writing this column.
