Valentine’s Day run benefits vets

The UH Air Force and Army ROTC programs sponsored a three-mile Valentine’s Day formation jog at the break of dawn this morning.

The three-mile formation jog around the UH campus began with an opening ceremony at 6:35 a.m. in the Garrison Hall parking lot and ended with a signing of a Valentine’s Day card for homeless and wounded veterans in the Houston area.

Electrical engineering junior John Thurman, a physical fitness squadron commander for the UH Air Force ROTC, said the run is a way to give thanks to those who defend the U.S. daily.

"This run is a chance to give a little back to those who sacrifice so much for all of us," Thurman said.

ROTC cadets as well as active duty Air Force officers will deliver the signed Valentine’s Day card along with desserts to veterans at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and DeGeorge Home on Friday.
