Five minutes of fame: River, riots and bike rides for graduate student

Mike Damante: So how does it feel to be in the paper? Sarah Rommel: I’m really excited to be part of the campus information process. Damante: Any information you give me will be able to be forwarded to telemarketers. Is that OK? Rommel: OK.

Damante: How has your summer been thus far? Rommel: It is nice to have a break between the spring and summer semesters. Damante: What did you do over the break? Rommel: I took a kayaking trip down to the river. Damante: Which river was that? Rommel: The Guadalupe, and I caught a 10-pound bass. Damante: Did you see any drunk college students floating the river? Rommel: I’m sure they were all pretty drunk but they seemed responsible. Damante: Next time I go to the river, I’m going to put on a Jason mask and carry a fake machete just to (mess) with the river floaters. Rommel: You might get arrested.

Damante: How about those gas prices? Rommel: Since gas prices are so high, I have elected to bike and ride public transportation. It is getting hot out, but the biking is enjoyable. Damante: How do you really feel about the gas prices? Rommel: I think they are going to continue to rise until we riot in the streets. Damante: Any previous rioting experience? Rommel: I documented some of the pro-immigration rallies and they were very peaceful and passionate.

Damante: Seen any summer movies? What about concerts? Rommel: Iron Man was good, as was The Visitor. I’m going to the True Colors tour (Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts) all in conjunction of a human rights campaign. Damante: Did you used to listen to Cyndi Lauper as a kid? Come on, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" was a rad song. Admit it. Rommel: No, I actually don’t like Cyndi Lauper that much. I’m just going to support the cause.
