Shayla LaMotte: Did you go to the football game on Saturday?
StephenThomas: I did, because I’m in the marching band.
LaMotte: Really?
Thomas: Yeah (laughs).
LaMotte: What did you think? Were you excited? We won, right?
Thomas: Oh yeah. Well, we pretty much kicked Southern’s butt. I thought I was watching a high school football game there for a second, cause I’m just like, "What? This score is crazy."
LaMotte: Yeah, my family’s from Louisiana and a lot of them went to Southern, so it was a big deal.
Thomas: But their band is pretty good. Their halftime was awesome
LaMotte: Yeah, the band is hot.
Thomas: God, their drum major was amazing (laughs).
LaMotte: If you were president what would you change about America?
Thomas: If I were president I’d probably change how people interact with one another, because you see all these cliques and racial groups – you have Black America, you have Mexican America, Asian America, why can’t it just be America? Why can’t everyone just be… united?… That’s one thing I strive to see, especially as an American, just to see everyone getting along. People say its never going to happen but, you know, it would be nice to see it happen.
LaMotte: So are you excited about this upcoming election?
Thomas: Yeah, definitely.
LaMotte: Do you know who you’re going to vote for?
Thomas: Obama.
LaMotte: Obama? Why is that?
Thomas: There are some things I agree with John McCain on, but Obama is just the right candidate for me.
LaMotte: So you’re a music major, what type of music are you into personally?
Thomas: I love all kinds of music. Love classical music and, to jump to a whole other genre, I love r’b, love rap. I love pop music, a little bit of rock. I don’t like country music (laughs) That’s like the only type of music I don’t like.
LaMotte: Do you have a favorite artist or are you very open mined about it?
Thomas: I know your probably gonna laugh at me, but I love Britney Spears.
LaMotte: Really?
Thomas: (Laughs)
LaMotte: (Laughs) Well that’s cool. Do you think this Britney or old Britney is better?
Thomas: I like her new music, her new album. I think just because of what was going on in her life that it wasn’t received very well, but I like it. I work out to it, I jam out to it. I think her life’s getting better.
