The University will be closed Monday after Hurricane Ike tore through the area early Saturday. The University’s Emergency Communications reported Saturday that the campus had power but that water pressure was too low to safely accommodate students, faculty and staff. It was also reported that some buildings suffered damage.
All classes, events and clinics are canceled for Monday. It remains undecided whether the University will be open Tuesday. Emergency Communications on the UH Web site, www.uh.edu, will be updated 10 a.m. Monday.
UH President Renu Khator addressed the University community in a letter Friday and said the University was doing everything it can to ensure students sheltering in place in residence halls on campus were safe. All students, including those living in residence halls who evacuated, are being asked not to return to campus until notified by the Pier System. Notifications are sent via e-mail and phone calls, and are also posted on the UH Web site.
Essential personal are being told to continue their duties and critical faculty and staff are to be contacted today regarding their possible return to campus.
