Five Minutes of Fame: Disney’s ‘High School Musical’ fasinates senior

Dana Christodoulopoulos: What’s your major?

Laura Aveidi: I’m a media studies major.

Christodoulopoulos: Media studies? What does that involve?

Aveidi: I study the media, which is really good for me, because I’m obsessed with celebrity gossip and the entertainment industry. I watch entirely too much TV and movies, and I listen to too much music.

Christodoulopoulos: So you read all those celebrity blogs like Perez Hilton and Pink is the New Blog?

Aveidi: Yeah, but not Perez Hilton. I don’t like him. He is kind of gross.

Christodoulopoulos: Yeah he is rude. What kind of job can you get with a media studies major?

Aveidi: Well, right now I’m interning with a band out of Austin called The Electric Touch. They just played at Austin City Limits, and I intern for them out of the Messina Group downtown. They are a promotions company.

Christodoulopoulos: That’s cool. So you just had your 21st birthday. Do anything fun for that?

Aveidi: Yeah, we went to sing karaoke. It was awesome.

Christodoulopoulos: Really? What place?

Aveidi: I actually don’t remember the place we ended up at. We were supposed to go to Spotlight Karaoke, but they were still closed because of the hurricane. Plus I was blindfolded so I couldn’t see anything.

Christodoulopoulos: What songs did you sing?

Aveidi: Well, we sang a lot of songs, but my favorite would have to be "See You Again" by Miley Cyrus.

Christodoulopoulos: Oh, so you’re a Disney fan?

Aveidi: Yes, a huge Disney fan. I have a sick obsession with Hannah Montana, Zac Efron and the whole High School Musical franchise. That’s why I was disappointed we didn’t end up at Spotlight because they have all of the High School Musical songs. I was really looking forward to singing those. Also, I wanted to sing some Jonas Brothers songs.

Christodoulopoulos: Which one is your favorite Jonas Brother?

Aveidi: Joe, the middle one.

Christodoulopoulos: He’s the one with the straight hair, right? And plays the tambourine?

Aveidi: Yeah, I love the tambourine.

Christodoulopoulos: I like how I know that.

Aveidi: Yeah, see, I’m not the only one.

Christodoulopoulos: I notice your bracelet says "Joe Jonas" on it and you have a Zac Efron watch on. So you not only like them but you buy the memorabilia too.

Aveidi: Well, actually my friend made me this bracelet, and then I definitely bought this watch.
