James Rincon: So, do you have any stocks?
Thomas Cunningham: No, thank God.
Rincon: Have you been keeping up with the market?
Cunningham: Sort of, a little bit – doesn’t sound too good from what I understand.
Rincon: Does that economic stuff interest you, being an English major?
Cunningham: No, not really.
Rincon: Oh, no?
Cunningham: Well, in that there might be some good stories in it. But as a subject itself, nah, not really.
Rincon: How about the election? Are you more into that?
Cunningham: Nah, not really. I’m probably voting for Obama, but I haven’t been following it too closely. I’m sort of one of those "two puppets, same puppet master" kind of opinions.
Rincon: Aha. Ok, well, what do you follow closely then?
Cunningham: Um, (laughs) very little. I don’t watch a lot of television.
Rincon: Are you from Houston originally?
Cunningham: I was born in Galveston, I grew up in Friendswood, and I’ve been living in Houston since 2000.
Rincon: Still have a lot of friends in Galveston?
Cunningham: Actually, no, not really. I had one who was living there when the hurricane hit, but he’s been transferred to College Station now.
Rincon: Well that’s good.
Rincon: So you’re a senior. Are you looking for a job?
Cunningham: Well, I have a job right now, but I might be switching to another place. It’s kind of awkward right now-I don’t really know which place is gonna be the better deal.
Rincon: Is the economy scaring you as far as job prospects when you get out of school?
Cunningham: Not really, cause I work in a bike shop and people are really going that way now. There’s been a big upswing in the whole industry lately.
Rincon: Because of the rise in gas prices?
Cunningham: Exactly, yeah, now we’re doing pretty good.
Rincon: So you’re looking to stay in the bike business with your English degree?
Cunningham: As long as I can, yeah. My dream is to write for a cycling magazine some day.
