GET TECHNICAL: Collaboration is a snap with Wiggio.com

In this brave new world of connectivity and always-on lifestyles, being able to manage a project from any location is the ultimate in ease-of-use and control.

Enter online collaboration tool Wiggio.com. This free service allows for the quick and painless communication between members that is required of today’s projects.

Founded by two Cornell students tired of trying to organize several different services into a coherent group to move their projects forward, Wiggio was originally just a concept to be pitched to business classes.

Soon they found two student coders and some financial backing, and what was once a mere class project became reality.

It’s easy to enroll – just enter your e-mail address, a password, your cell phone number and carrier, and you’re set.

If you’re wondering why they need your cell phone number, it’s because their best service requires it – mass text messaging from the PC.

Not only does this make getting hold of everybody fast and easy, it means they can contact you with the same ease.

The rest of the Web site offers similar usability and efficiency. Major attractors include the mass e-mail capability and the provision of easy conference calling for free. There are group-editable folders and customizable controls to dole out permissions as needed to individual users.

The calendar portion is limited, but will soon be expanded to include more of the features demanded by converts from Google Calendars and Yahoo! Calendar.

The Web site is still in a public beta stage, which means there will be some bugs and other kinks, but is about 90 percent complete.

The code running the Web site is clean and elegant, which translates to a clean, elegant experience.

The service is run from a massive database, with near-unlimited storage per group. There are no upload size limits, and no limit to the size of a group.

When files are uploaded, Wiggio keeps a copy of all previous versions of that file. The newest revision is shown first, with a dropdown menu of the previous versions.

The Web site is very well organized, easy to navigate and provides a simple way to coordinate all of your project’s efforts.

For projects needing anything more than what Wiggio offers, you’re going to have to find some very specialized software or write your own. This Web site covers anything and everything a project might need, and will provide an easy interface to integrate all of them.
