Shayla LaMotte: Are you excited about the holidays?
Martin Calzada: Actually, I’m not.
LaMotte: You’re not?
Calzada: Well not for Thanksgiving, I have three tests coming back after Thanksgiving. But the actual holidays, yes very excited.
LaMotte: So are you going to be studying all break?
Calzada: I’d say I am, but I’m not.
LaMotte: (laughs) You plan to. Is Monday your last day or do you have classes on Tuesday?
Calzada: I do have classes on Tuesday. I’m actually kind of happy right now. I’m supposed to have a test today, but my class got canceled.
LaMotte: Then you’re going to have it when you get back, that’s one more test to study for.
Calzada: (laughs) Yeah, I didn’t think about that.
LaMotte: What are you looking forward to most about the holidays?
Calzada: Getting my sleep back and getting the chance to do other random things that I like to do. Video games, TV. I just went to the Renaissance Festival a couple of weeks ago, and I got a bow and arrow. So maybe I will play with that.
LaMotte: Do you have a lot of family that comes to town or is everyone here??Calzada: Actually everyone goes to Mexico, so I think I might do that too. It’s maybe 20 or 30 people.
LaMotte: Oh wow, will you stay the whole month?
Calzada: I think maybe two (or) three weeks
LaMotte: Do you have any traditions that you’re looking forward to?
Calzada: I think probably the biggest one is food. For Christmas, we make a lot of food and enjoy the rest of the evening.
LaMotte: What’s your favorite dish?
Calzada: It’s this Mexican style of quesadillas. No one really knows about it, it’s hard to describe, but it’s so good.
LaMotte: Do you cook at all?
Calzada: Me? No. I wouldn’t want to eat what I cook.
LaMotte: Really? Do you have any memories of past holidays that stand out?
Calzada: No, it’s kind of all a blur.
LaMotte: Well any plans for New Year’s yet?
Calzada: Not really.
LaMotte: One holiday at a time?
Calzada: Yeah. I haven’t thought that far.
