Senior balances radio job, fatherhood

Patricia Estrada: What is your major?

Job Tennant: Broadcast journalism.

Estrada: What do you want to do with that?

Tennant: Sports radio. If I can get paid to talk about sports, I would be more than happy to do so.

Estrada: If you couldn’t cover football in your career, what other sport would you like to cover?

Tennant: I follow the big three more closely, but I like rugby a lot. I enjoy watching soccer, but I don’t really follow it. If I can go to a hockey match, I am thrilled. Pretty much any competitive sport is something I am pretty interested in. I actually just joined a rugby team

Estrada: Really? Here with UH?

Tennant:’ No, not with UH. Houston Area Rugby Coalition, something like that.

Estrada: You should join the UH rugby team. I know a couple of players.

Tennant: Actually, one of the guys I met last week was a UH rugby player. I mean, I would be more than willing to get into it, but I am pretty tied up on my schedule. I am full-time here, I have kind of a full-time job, 15 to 30 hours a weeks with CBS radio, ‘Sports Radio 610,’ and then I have a 5-year-old son.

Estrada: What is your favorite thing about being a dad?

Tennant: I guess being able to form a relationship with him, where I can look back and see the entirety of the relationship. I can look back to the day he was born, what he was like when he was one. I have been able to watch him grow and develop, and I think that is really, really special. I also like being a role model for him, kind of a mentor. I like being able to just try and help him (with) the world in the way I understood it.
