Wagner wins C-USA award

UH outfielder Laurie Wagner was named Conference USA Softball Hitter of the Week Monday.

This is Wagner’s second Hitter of the Week honor this season and the fifth of her career. She hit .462 with seven RBIs last week, leading the Cougars (18-16, 7-4 C-USA) to a three-game sweep of C-USA rival Alabama-Birmingham and a doubleheader sweep of Sam Houston State.

Wagner smacked two home runs and five RBIs during the sweep of UAB on Saturday. In the second game of the SHSU doubleheader, Wagner hit two doubles and drove in two runs to lead UH to a 3-1 victory. She also batted .667 with runners in scoring position last week.

Wagner and her teammates will continue conference play with a doubleheader against Memphis at 1 p.m. Friday. The series will wrap up with an 11 a.m. contest Saturday.

Moser leads golf at ASU Invitational

The UH golf team fired a 298 Sunday to finish 15th at the Administaff Augusta Invitational on April 4-5 in Augusta, Ga.

The Cougars finished 21 shots behind host Augusta State, which scored 277 to take the team championship.

Senior captain Ben Moser shot a 4-under-par 68 Sunday to finish in a tie for 43rd place with a total score of 217.

The Cougars will return to the course Friday when they take part in the River Landing Intercollegiate in Wallace, N.C. This will be UH’s last tune up before it competes in the C-USA Championship, April 19 through 21 in Orlando, Fla.
