As Jonathan Dismuke enters his first season as the golf team’s head coach, his main goal is to improve on the program’s recent trend of mediocrity and place it among the nation’s elite.’
‘My main expectation for us right now is to get better,’ Dismuke said. ‘Our main goal is to try to control the things we can control and try to get better every week.”
Hired in July to replace Vince Jarrett, Dismuke leaves his assistant coach position at Texas A&M after helping the Aggies win the 2009 NCAA Division I National Championship. UH has previously won 16 team NCAA national championships.’ Dismuke hopes his experience with Texas A&M will help him guide UH back to a championship level of play.’
‘I think it brings credibility,’ Dismuke said. ‘I was fortunate enough last year to win a championship at Texas A&M, so from a credibility standpoint and an experience standpoint I think my leadership and experience will help us get on the right page.’
The Cougars are scheduled to play 12 tournaments this year. Four take place in the fall and seven in the spring before the C-USA Championships, April 25-27.’
The Cougars open with the Kansas Invitational today and Tuesday in Lawrence, Kan., and travel to South Bend, Ind. Oct. 5-6 for the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic. ‘
This season’s roster consists of only nine players. The breakdown by class gives the Cougars balance led by seniors Beau Davis and Jackie Lindsey. Juniors A.J. Ferries, Clark Mitzner and Matt Eschenburg, sophomore Eric Adler and freshmen Joseph Reynolds, Jordan Rumora and Danny Kim round out the squad.’
‘I think everybody is on the same page,’ Dismuke said. ‘We’re working towards our short term goals and just every week we need to find ourselves a little better than the week before.”
