Blues fans will want to head downtown this afternoon, as blues great Texas Johnny Brown will perform a free concert on the Anheuser-Busch Stage at Discovery Green.
The combination of food and live music is undeniably alluring ‘- something the event planners at Discovery Green have not overlooked.’
The ‘Blues and Burgers’ series of concerts will continue throughout October to highlight the local blues scene. Future acts lined up for the event include the Milton Hopkins Band, I. J. Gosey and Little Joe Washington.
While the concerts provide the blues, Discovery Green eatery The Lake House will provide the burgers. The restaurant’s menu is a product of culinary efforts by chefs Robert Del Grande and Ryan Pera.
Del Grande is one of the most decorated chefs in Houston, having earned a James Beard Award in 1992 and earning critical acclaim for his restaurant, Cafe Annie.’
Pera, who heads the kitchen at Discovery Green’s other restaurant, The Grove, previously delighted diners at *17, a restaurant at the Alden hotel in Houston.
The menu features burger patties comprised of three different cuts of beef made to order.’ The hot dogs are made with Kobe beef from a specially raised breed of cattle in Japan. The cattle are fed beer and massaged regularly to ensure a high degree of intramuscular fat.’
In addition to the posh menu, wines, beers and seasonal beverages are also served.
‘ Since its opening in April 2008, Discovery Green has become one of the newest hot spots downtown, as the city slowly moves away from being primarily a business center to becoming a social arena.’
In addition to restaurants and regular park events, Discovery Green also features art installations, free Wi-Fi and a 7,200 square-foot skating rink opening Nov. 26.
