Cougar soccer aiming to get leg up on playoff push

The Cougars will play their last two home matches of the season this weekend and are looking to position themselves for a playoff push.

UH is currently 10th in the Conference USA standings, and will need a strong showing this weekend in order make the field of six that advance to the C-USA tournament.

The Cougars will face off against Southern Mississippi at 7 p.m. today at Robertson Stadium, and against Central Florida at 1 p.m.’ Sunday at the Carl Lewis Complex.

UCF sits atop the C-USA standings after beating UTEP on Friday and Colorado College on Sunday. The Cougars will need to be at the top of their game to stand a chance against UCF’s potent offense. The Knights have won four consecutive matches, scoring a staggering 13 goals over that span while surrendering only 4 scores.

Before they play UCF, the Cougars will face a less-imposing Southern Miss squad.’ While the calibers of their two opponents differ greatly, the Cougars must not take the Golden Eagles lightly. UH needs points to move up in the conference standings, and can ill afford to be shocked on their home field.’ Southern Miss has yet to win a conference game this season, and the Cougars will look to keep that trend going.’
