This year Houston will host some haunting parties, costume contests, and blowout extravaganzas.
For the inner socialite in us all, the ultimate Halloween soiree will be taking place at Hotel Zaza from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. Flying down for the occasion is world-renowned drag queen and DJ Lady Bunny. Benefitting UNICEF, tickets are on sale for $75. The hotel will also offer a discount on all overnight stays for those who find themselves reeling from too much champagne.
If partying with Houston’s social elite isn’t your idea of fun, then join the 2009 BikeHouston Moonlight Bicycle Ramble at 1:59 a.m. Sunday (before the clocks change) at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Amble along an 8-mile route through downtown or test your endurance with the intense 20-mile trail. More than 2,000 attendees biked together in 2007’s ride, so this year’s event is sure to attract plenty of people.
Registering for the trip costs $25 in advance or $30 onsite, with all proceeds going to helmet donations for disadvantaged children.
Romp through Montrose’s hippest dives for free at the Montrose Crawl on Halloween night. Crawlers will hop through favorites such as Brasil, Poison Girl, Anvil, Catbirds, Boondocks and Slick Willie’s. Costumers will compete to win three contests held at 7:30 p.m., 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., with finalists vying for a secret grand prize worth $500 at midnight.
UH’s School of Theatre and Dance will host the largest costume contest on campus at 10:15 p.m. between the two performances of The Rocky Horror Show at the Wortham Theatre.
Theater and dance alumni will judge the costumes, so break out your finest for an unforgettable night.
