Holly Milkowski: So, what made you decide on these two majors?
Javier Hernandez: Well, I always wanted to be fluent in French, and since I already know Spanish and English, I could then say that I’m trilingual. As for management, I’ve already had plenty of experiences with leadership positions, so the idea of managing a group, a team or even a business does not seem so far-fetched to me.
Milkowski: What kind of groups or organizations would you work with?
Hernandez: I really would like to work in a non-profit organization ‘hellip; since I have a real passion for volunteering and helping others. I could work my way up in a non-profit company and be able to help lead one of its divisions.
Milkowski: What do you think makes you a good person for that job?
Hernandez: Well, I enjoy helping others, and I want to know that what I’m doing is making a difference in someone’s life.
Milkowski: What do you think will be the hardest part of that career?
Hernandez: Well, I guess I never really thought about that. I would assume that if I end up working with underprivileged people, it may become a bit depressing (to see) how hard others have it.
Milkowski: What kind of cultures or people would you prefer to work with?
Hernandez: I have thought about being a translator, and I’m thinking that I would like to either work in the U.S. helping newcomers understand our language or in France teaching English to their youth.
Milkowski: When you’re not busy with classes, what do you usually do?
Hernandez: Well, I do work a lot teaching tennis, but I also like (spending) some time on my hobbies. I do a little bit (of) poetry, art, acting and sports. I’m currently the team captain of the Houston Community College tennis team.
