Mentalist Alain Nu is bringing his nationally acclaimed illusions and tricks to UH.
The Student Program Board will present Nu’s show at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Room 101 of the Social Work Building.
Nu promised an exciting lineup arranged for Wednesday’s show.
‘People will read each other’s minds. I will try to send projected thoughts into members of the audience’s heads,’ Nu said. ‘There will be unusual synchronicities that we will try to create, prophecies will be made, and spoons will bend and twist like snakes.’
Nu also said that, as a mentalist, his work focuses more on the mind than magic tricks.
‘The thing I like to say that differentiates mentalism from magic, because a lot of people wonder, (is that) I think that magic shows tend to focus on possibilities and the impossible, while mentalism focuses on the possibilities of the mind and what we are capable of,’ Nu said.
He’ added that the bond between audience members inspires his show.
‘Our show is about things that can’t scientifically be explained. One notion is that ‘hellip; most people would agree that everyone is mysteriously or invisibly connected to one another,’ Nu said. ‘What the show does is explore these mysterious connections that are between people that seem to be beyond the five senses.’
Nu brings years of acclaim and experience to the show. He performed Jan. 20 at the ‘Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball,’ where living recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor toasted to President Barack Obama’s inauguration.
He also headlined at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas for four consecutive years and starred in a special on The Learning Channel called ‘The Mysterious World of Alain Nu!’
Nu said he is anticipating Wednesday night’s performance.
‘I’m hoping that (students) will make the extra effort to stick around and come see what I do,’ Nu said.
