Life + Arts

FIVE MINUTES OF FAME: Health senior has bohemian interests

Sasha Schwendenwein: Tell me about your artwork.

Jessica Shamburger: I’ve never taken an art class in my life, but ideas just pop into my head and I have to paint them.

Schwendenwein: How tall are you?

Shamburger: 6 feet, 2 inches.

Schwendenwein: Is the rest of your family as tall?

Shamburger: My family (members) are all very big and if you don’t grab enough on the dinner table, there’ll be nothing left. There’s a general rule in my household – write your name on your leftovers, or they’ll be eaten.

Schwendenwein: Tell me something unusual about yourself.

Shamburger: I have two extra ribs in my body and this summer I had surgery to have them removed. I’m also full of interesting facts: I know what the little things on the end of shoes laces are called ‘- aglets.

Schwendenwein: Tell me, what sets you apart from other people?

Shamburger: I try to make people laugh, and I think God uses me for comic relief sometimes ‘- I have a pretty spontaneous life.

Schwendenwein: What’s something crazy you love about yourself?

Shamburger: My (tattoos). I have a phoenix that’s 6 inches long on my back. I call him Gregory, and I got him for my 18th birthday to symbolize all the things I’ve overcome in my life. I got a goldfish on my foot and wore socks for months around the house until my mom found out.

Schwendenwein: What would you like to do when you graduate?

Shamburger: I’d like to work with kids one day.

Schwendenwein: If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Shamburger: I’d like to meet honest Abe (Abraham Lincoln) ‘hellip; because he seems like he would know how to have a good time and he’s taller than me. I mean, who wouldn’t want to meet the guy on the penny?

Schwendenwein: What is your favorite movie?

Shamburger: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Singin’ in the Rain.
