Women’s Basketball – Cougars get No. 8 seed, prep for West Virginia

UH earned an at-large bid to the Women’s NCAA Tournament on Monday, being selected as a No. 8 seed. The Cougars will play West Virginia on Sunday at the Ferrell Center in Waco.
The Cougars or the Mountaineers (21-11) will face the winner of No. 1 seed Baylor and No. 16 seed Prarie View A&M in the second round.
“We have a chance to send a message and fill the stands up with red,” head coach Todd Buchanan said in a release. “I’ve known (Head Coach) Mike (Carey)for a long time and he’s done an incredible job at West Virginia. We’ll have to cross every T and dot every I. When you have the success that they’ve had for the last seven years and done what they’ve done in the Big East, you know that they’re an incredible basketball team that we’re getting ready to play.
“I’m just happy that we’re back in the NCAA Tournament. We’re certainly not just going to take that for granted and just be glad to be there, but we’re going to play with a lot of fight and heart. We need to get our fans in their cars to Waco, Texas, to come support the Cougars on Sunday afternoon.”
The game tips off at 4:10 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.
