To celebrate 50 years of human exploration in space, the International Academy of Astronautics is holding its 18th annual Humans in Space Symposium Monday through Friday.
This year’s event will be hosted by UH. This year’s theme is Integration and Cooperation in the Next Golden Age of Human Space Flight.
“UH is a co-sponsor of the international space symposium that will bring space industry professionals to Houston to discuss the next phase of human space exploration,” said UH Media Relations representative Marisa Ramirez. “Professor William Paloski from the UH department of health and human performance and formerly of NASA-JSC is an organizer.”
Other presenters at the event will include Representative Pete Olson, Johnson Space Center Director Mike Coats, Japanese physician and space explorer Chiaki Mukai, and UH President Renu Khator.
According to the event’s official website, the IAA is committed to promoting research and discussion about biological sciences linked to space exploration.
A key presentation will be over Yuri Gagarin, the Russian space explorer who was the first human to orbit Earth in 1961.
There will also be a special presentation discussing astronaut and pilot Robert Chippen, who manned the first Space Shuttle mission that in 1981.
“The symposium theme, Integrations and Cooperation in the Next Golden Age of Human Space Flight, will guide attendees to focus on the basic concept that collaboration and teamwork across cultures, nations, agencies, disciplines and objectives will be absolutely essential to the next chapters of the Humans-in-Space story,” the event’s website said.
Researchers and other space industry professionals from around the world will attend, said Marisa Ramirez in a press release.
“Attendees at this conference represent a broad spectrum of the space life science community, and include representatives from government, academia, and private industry.”
The 18th annual Humans in Space Symposium will be held at the Westin Hotel in the Galleria. Registration fees vary from $200 to $750.
