Softball – Cougars advance to NCAA Super Regionals

The Cougars are one step closer to a berth in the Women’s College World Series after they beat Louisiana-Lafayette 4-1 Sunday in Austin.

With the win, UH advances to the NCAA Super Regional to take on Oklahoma State.

“We’ve talked about all week that we had a lot of work to do this weekend,” head coach Kyla Holas said in a release. “Now that we’ve finished that work here, it is such a good feeling and we’re so happy for these girls that we get to keep playing. It’s huge for this program.”

Saturday the Cougars (43-16) pulled out a 1-0 win over No. 9 Texas to advance to the championship game. The only run came when Melissa Gregson batted in Katy Beth Sherman in the first inning. UH started its weekend with a 7-2 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday.

The Cougars will play the Oklahoma State Cowgirls at 7 p.m. Friday at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. UH beat Oklahoma St. 3-2 when they met Feb. 18 at the Houston Hilton Plaza classic and own a 2-0 all-time record against OSU.
