Maybe it isn’t such a bad thing after all that UH will not be included in the Big 12 Conference. On Saturday, Texas A&M visited Texas Tech in Lubbock for a football game. The Aggies woke up on game day to find the interior of their buses completely smeared in what was believed to be dog manure. The outside of the buses were painted with obscenities and Texas Tech logos.
These are the type of headlines that are sure to make any respecting fan cringe. The individuals at fault may have assumed this was a blow to the Aggies, but it is more of an embarrassment to themselves and Texas Tech.
Just because two teams may have some bad blood between them, there is no excuse to commit such a foul act. No matter how fierce a rivalry is on the field, this is a case of people taking competition too seriously.
Every school and sports team has supporters who are not worth claiming as their own. Whether the guilty parties were students or fans, they need to be dealt with and shown no forgiveness. Criminal charges and expelling any potential students from school is a justifiable in this instance.
The worst part is that these people subjected themselves to hauling around dog feces to show the Aggies that they were not welcome in Lubbock. A person willing to carry out a prank like this might be more suited for a mental institution than a public university.
There are other, less vile ways to express your hostilities to an opposing team. And, there is a thin line between being a fan and being fanatical — these people crossed it.
Being rowdy to the other team is a part of sports, but being a good sport should come first.
The Daily Cougar fully supports UH in conference realignment efforts. Whether it is the Big 12 or another conference, the Cougars belong in an automatic-qualifying conference. But after this debacle in Lubbock, scheduling a non-conference game at Texas Tech is not the best idea.
Allegedly! No police report, no pictures, and no way this is true! The Aggies are known for fabricating stories. You really think we throw batteries at opposing fans? If you do show me a police report! The Aggies like to give TTU a bad image. The same "honest aggies" that stole the masked riders horse and left him tied up in a barn and painted. Same guys that branded bevo. The same guys the faked injuries on the field to slow the Red Raiders. Same guys who took a cheap shot that severely injured Eric Stephens late in the game. The same guys that will get hammered by ALL the SEC teams in the near future. If you think Lubbock is bad wait until you get to Baton Rouge where there the fans REALLY want to hurt you. Cheap shot would be the intentional leg whip on the A&M quarterback that knocked the ball loose. Funny how the fx announcers never mentioned that on the air even though it was clearly what happened.
Hammered by those SEC teams that cancelled the series not once but twice because they were tired of losing to A&M, guess we will have to play the games to find that out.

It's the continued bad behavior and classless idiocy of your student body. That's as much a hallmark as any your university has to offer. The injuries weren't faked, but thanks for booing the kid with the dislocated elbow. Again, that's all you need to know about Tech.
I have never heard allegations of Aggies throwing batteries and I have followed evry game since fall, 1973. The mascot stealing did occur, but was long ago. Students are briefed on the illegality and probablye repercusions. The announcers (clearly NOT pro Aggie) recognized a number of the injuries were clearly valid and that they could not say whether others were. Stephens took an unfortunate hit, but no flags were thrown.
I respect and appreciate the editorial. I am accustomed to the letter to which I respond.

On the Steohens hit. I hate to see that type of injury. The ball was loose on the ground so the defender is going that direction when he sees it. Stephens was turning back towards the ball and it happened ..Not dirty, just unfortunate. As far as the TT fans. I have been a part of this rivalry for 30 years and the TT fans do thier team no service. They throw things are rude and downright mean. i quit going there in the 90's and cant wait to get them off our schedule. I would much rather go to Fayettville and Jordan hare than that hell hole and the idiot peopel that call them selves 'fans"!!!

Once again tech earns the name "Classless Clowns". Vandalizing the busses is a despicable act but that was an act perpetrated by a few malcontents and I would not hold the entire student body or fan base responsible for that act. In my opinion, they showed just how little class they have when they booed numerous injured players. This was not a few fans, this was the entire stadium. Time and time again, the replay showed that the players very well could have been injured. I know the current thoughts on defenses slowing down a fast paced offense by faking injury but to boo a player who is laying injured on the ground is poor sportsmanship and “Classless”.
Isn't it strange that a red raider fan is attacking the Aggies due to an article in the University of Houston student newspaper. The big 12 would be better off if it removed the red raiders and replaced them with the cougars. That will probably never happen if tu has anything to say about it though.

I have personally witnessed a tech fan throwing a 9 volt battery through the back glass of my buddy's car as it was parked in a driveway on Holleman in College Station. We were standing outside, smoking, next to the car when the window shattered. We then saw a truck haul ass down the 30mph residential road with a bunch of tech fans in the bed, hooting and hollering. Unfortunately we weren't able to get license plate number. Aggies never lie, cheat, or steal but tech fans sure as hell do. I'd be angry too if I hadn't been accepted by A&M or UT and was forced to go to school in a town that smelled like chicken poop and dirt.
I hope A&M never has to play those classless, STD-riddled clowns ever again. Good riddance TTU, have fun in the soon-to-be-meaningless Bevo X.
P.S. My friends who watched the game with me in Boston, who don't give a crap about the Big 12, thought your sparkly black helmets looked "Twilight ghey". Just sayin'.

My family lives in Texas. I have four daughters. Two are in college–one goes to A&M and the other is at Tech. We have attended many games over the past 3 years played by both schools. I am appauled at Tech's consistent UNSPORTSMAN like conduct and lack of class on and off the field regardless of who their opponent is! From booing players who are down injured, to throwing tortillas with ketchup on them at opposing fans, to inserting prophanity into cheers and fight songs, etc… I personally don't care who won the game becuase I support both schools financially, but I can say this for sure…………Tech won't be getting one penney of college tuition from me for my last two girls! So disgustingly SAD!!

Not surprising at all. They have done this in the past. I cannot remember the year but it was early 2000s when Tech came to A&M, they spray painted red double Ts on almost every statue on campus as well as many of our buildings on campus. I just cannot believe that someone would do this, it is apallling. How long is it going to take for Texas Tech to understand that Texas A&M is not a rival of theirs. I am glad we will never have to play these losers in anything again.
You are correct. I was there when that incident happened. It seems like the Techies are stuck in their old high school ways and they need to grow up! I for one am so glad that we don't have to face them again!

Typical Red Raider denial – regardless of the bus incident, you can ask any member of ANY school in the Big XII (besides Tech) and also any member of a non-conference school that has been to Jones stadium and they will agree that tech fans are TERRIBLE and that going to a game there is almost not worth it. If you're so pissed about A&M leaving the Big XII because of the revenue it brings to Lubbock, maybe you should start with being more welcoming to your opponents' fans so that people will actually come to that God-forsaken town and spend money to go to the game. Don't get me wrong, A&M has a ton of jokes directed at them for good reason. That sad thing is, no one has to make up a joke about Tech because the joke is observing the classless, unsportsmanlike way they act at EVERY game. Not just football!
