It would have taken longer to watch to watch an episode of Parks and Recreation than it took for the Cougars to put up 73 points in their win over Tulane at the Superdome on Thursday.
The nation’s most proficient offense piled up 735 total yards and 30 first downs on 69 total plays despite having the ball for just 25 minutes – and they didn’t even start scoring until the second quarter.
The Cougars’ defense allowed 331 yards on 83 plays for an average of just 4 yards per play.
Senior running back Bryce Beall, who missed the last three games with a hamstring injury, got the scoring started for the Cougars finding the end zone from 11 yards out on his only carry of the game with 13:48 to go in the first half.
Less than a minute later, following a Tulane three-and-out, Patrick Edwards returned a punt 70 yards for another touchdown.
Edwards also caught three receiving touchdowns as part of a UH run where it scored on 11-of-13 possessions.
Junior Charles Sims had a career night on the ground, running for a career-high 207 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.
Sims first scored on a career-long 52-yard run with 4:46 left to go in the first half, but set a new personal best four minutes later, taking an outside run 72 yards for another score.
Case Keenum completing 20-29 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
Senior Cotton Turner relieved Keenum in the second half and hooked up with Chance Blackmon for a 27-yard-scoring strike, and again found the end zone on a 35-yard run.
Damien Payne followed Turner with a 76-yard punt return for a touchdown.
UH is now 10-0, the best start in school history.
