Soccer names Akron’s Pfau newest coach

The Houston Cougars officially named Chris Pfau head soccer coach on Friday, making him the fourth coach in the program’s history.

Pfau spent his last four seasons at Akron, where he helped the Zips to a 2009 MAC East Division championship and three straight Mid-American Conference tournaments. Prior to his arrival, Akron’s soccer team had produced only one winning season and no tournament births through the program’s first eight years of existence.

Throughout his seven years as a coach, Pfau has produced a 60-58-1 record with stints at Princeton, Evansville and, most recently, Akron.

At Evansville, Pfau posted a 30-22-4 record, winning ten-plus games per season including a No. 7 regional ranking in 2007.

He attended college at Old Dominion where he was a team captain and four year starter. Upon graduation, he spent ten years in the APSL, NPSL and WSL.

Pfau was hired following the resignation of Susan Quill who held the reigns for five seasons compiling a 33-50-11 mark over her tenure.
