Sponsored by Student Program Board, Andy Grammer is bringing his sound to UH’s Cullen Performance Hall on Oct. 12.
The first 1,605 students to stand outside the doors of the Cullen Performance Hall on the day of the concert will get to hear hear numerous songs from Grammer’s new album — including some of his top radio hits like “Keep Your Head Up,” “Fine By Me” and “Miss Me” — for free.
SPB President Jessica Grono — along with her other 11 executive board members and 50 student members — said the SPB is dedicated to providing UH students with entertainment.
“Our mission is to bring fun to campus, and what we do each semester is bring a variety of movies, concerts and comedians,” Grono said.
“We wanted to kind of show UH that we can bring really great events to campus. When we went to our NACA (National Association for Campus Activities) conference in the spring, we saw Andy Grammer, and we thought he would be a really great event for students to enjoy.”
After attending the conference, SPB brought back two options and discussed it with its executive board and student members until ultimately deciding that Grammer was the best choice.
“He is the type of artist that can really appeal to all types of students,” Grono said.
“He’s a pop genre. We bring lots of other types of genres, but for a big concert like this, we wanted something where the diversity of the crowd would match the diversity of the university.”
The Cullen Performance Hall doors open at 7 p.m. and begins at 8 p.m.
Additional incentives may be made available to students who attend. For more information, visit www.uh.edu/spb/.
I like how the other choice wasn’t even mentioned as to exactly who it was. Awesome transparency here. Not that Andy Grammer isn’t a good choice, but it’d have been nice to know what the other option was.
