UH’s Facilities Management electrical team has scheduled a power outage for 1 a.m. Thursday morning.
“The purpose will be to test equipment damaged by the lightning strike and then, hopefully, bring two of the lines back into operation,” said Interim Associate Vice Chancellor/Associate Vice President for UH Marketing & Communication Richard Bonnin.
The planned outage, which will affect much of the campus, could last up to four hours.
“UH faculty, staff and students are advised to turn off computers and electrical equipment during this time,” Bonnin said in a news release. “Also, UH community members should save or back up data and make provisions for research equipment or experiments.”
Because there will be minimal lighting throughout the campus around 1 a.m., the university advises that anyone outside at that time take extra precaution.
