Every two years, Houstonians swarm to the voting booths solidarity of their democratic society by voting for the next mayor, other city officials and propositions. Centers open across the city and constituents take the time to have their voices heard.

The University is home to a large population of voting-age constituents and has, in the past, housed booths to encourage student engagement in local politics. During the 2005 elections, the majority of Houstonians supported the re-election of former Mayor Bill White.
