After being benched in the middle of the third quarter on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders, Case Keenum will remain the starter this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, said head coach Gary Kubiak on Monday.
Kubiak said he replaced Keenum with Schaub because of his issues with protection and the inability to handle the Raiders’ blitzes.
“I didn’t want to put a young guy in a bad situation,” Kubiak said to NFL.com. “I’d do it again. I tried to help out the quarterback and offensive line.”
Although he has lost his first three games as a starter, it would be senseless for one to say he has been the cause. Keenum lost by a point against the then-undefeated Kansas City Chiefs and three each against the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals.
Keenum has thrown seven touchdowns and only one interception to go along with his 99 quarterback rating.
“I’ve got total confidence in him,” Kubiak said.
