University employees contribute big to local, national charities

University employees have continued a tradition of giving, with this year’s charitable contributions totaling a little more than $79,000 to the State Employee Charitable Campaign.

Employees are able to donate to a charity of their choice from a lengthy list of national and local charities, including United Way Houston, Texas Match the Promise Foundation and Children’s Charitable Alliance of Texas.

Since SECC’s inception 20 years ago, the UH community has contributed around $1.3 million to local and national organizations, according to uh.edu.

SECC is the only workplace campaign that has statutory authorization for state agency and higher education employees in Texas, according to the Texas SECC website.
