Gallery: Cougars clean up for post-season banquet

The Cougars got their suits and ties for the annual Ken Baxter Football Banquet, which honors the accomplishments of the preceding season. Twelve players were selected for honors on Sunday at the Bayou City Event Center.

The team recapped the important events of the season before 10 awards were given out for their success throughout the season. Listed are the award winners:

Wilson Whitley Defensive MVP award: Sophomore defensive back Trevon Stewart, who led the nation in turnovers responsible for, and junior linebacker Derrick Mathews who led the team in tackles and total tackles.

Andre Ware Offensive MVP: Sophomore receiver Deontay Greenberry finished the season with 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns and was selected for the honor.

Special Team’s MVP: Senior punter Richie Leone and freshman return specialist Demarcus Ayers shared the award.

Tom Wilson Weight Room Off-Season MVP: Redshirt sophomore running back was selected for the honor.

President’s Academic Excellence Award: After graduating with a degree in business, senior offensive lineman was presented with the award.

Scout Team Offensive, Defensive and Special Team’s MVP: Freshman Kyle Postma, sophomore Tyler White and freshman Cameron Doubenmier respectively.

Committed Cougar Award: Walk-on sophomore fullback Luke Stice was selected after strong contributions on special teams and two starts.
