UH women’s basketball head coach Todd Buchanan has resigned due to personal reasons, the Athletics Department announced Saturday.
Associate head coach Wade Scott, who is in his eighth season at UH and third as associate head coach, will take over as the program’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Buchanan was in his fourth year as head coach of the Cougars and compiled a record of 46-56. In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, the team claimed the Conference USA Championship with a perfect 16-0 conference record and returned to the NCAA Women’s Tournament for the first time since 2005.
“I’ve made the decision to step away from the game of basketball for personal reasons. It is time to restore my life balance and, in turn, take better care of myself and my family,” Buchanan said. “I’d like to thank Mack Rhoades, DeJuena Chizer and the entire University of Houston family. Although I’m stepping away, I will always have a place in my heart for UH and wish the University nothing but tremendous success.”
